The Slovenian Film Centre (SFC) was established by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia in 2011 as the successor of the Slovenian Film Fund (established in 1994). The primary goal of this organisation is to encourage creativity in the film and audiovisual field in the Republic of Slovenia by creating suitable conditions for the film, audiovisual and cinematographic activities.

SFC primarily supports the Slovenian film and AV production (fiction, documentary and animation), co‑production and development through public tender procedures. Furthermore, its purpose is also to provide support to film education, film festivals in Slovenia, professional film industry associations, and the art cinema network, especially in the process of digitisation. Another important task of sfc is to support the distribution of Slovenian films and their promotion in Slovenia and abroad. Each year sfc presents the newest Slovenian cinematographic projects at the film markets in Berlin and Cannes, encouraging their international festival promotion. It also organises retrospectives of Slovenian films around the world.

Each year SFC also enables the Festival of Slovenian Film, where the latest Slovenian film production is presented and the highest national film awards are given.
